# Why is the Standing Bear Program Important for Reconciliation?

## Standing Bear reflects a joint commitment to creating brighter futures for Indigenous youth.

The Standing Bear program is a key part of Ontario's journey towards reconciliation. It reflects the Government of Ontario’s commitment to working with Indigenous Peoples and communities to create a better future for everyone in the province.

 

The program was initiated to:

- Engage various stakeholders in defining youth leadership issues and solutions.
- Foster partnerships and collaborations that deliver youth-focused resources.
- Support a youth-led, province-wide leadership development initiative.

 

By involving Indigenous youth and communities, the program aims to build a foundation for reconciliation and positive change.
